Guyana Islamic Trust Updates

Literacy program in Sophia

The Georgetown district has recently commenced a daily Literacy program for children in the Sophia area. The sessions offered are free of cost and have since recorded much success.

Circumcision clinic

The Guyana Islamic Relief Organisation (GIRO) coordinated a circumcision outreach clinic on March 29, 2008 benefitting some thirty children along the East Coast of Demerara. The program was held at Logwood Masjid and was carried out by local medical personnel who volunteered their invaluable services.

Family Seminar held at Triumph Masjid

Region Four District Three received close to one hundred persons at their family seminar held on April 20, 2008. The seminar was held at the Triumph Masjid under the theme “The role of the family in today’s society”.

Youth Program held in R4D4

A brothers’ youth program was successfully carried out on April 26-27 at the Logwood Masjid. Some forty young and energetic brothers attended the Liqaa.

ISA Islamic School Inter-House Sports

ISA has once again ran off its annual Inter-House Athletic sports which featured more than fifty five events. The event took place at the Everest Sports ground on April 30, 2008. House Uhud emerged as the champion.

NISA’s Cultural program and Fund Raiser

The National Islamic Sisters Association (NISA) successfully held a cultural program and
fund raiser on May 4, 2008 at the ISA Islamic School. Over one hundred sisters from various districts viewed the spectacular event as numerous persons gracefully supported NISA’s food sale.
